Pressmeddelande CB Health Access USA

Swedish medical device companies entering the US market

Five companies from Sweden attended a business mission to Philadelphia and Washington DC in October 2017 to meet with the healthcare actors in the region. The visit was organized by Swedish Medtech and Swecare in cooperation with SACC-USA, SACC-DC and AHP International, and under the framework of CB Health Access, an international EU-funded program.

The participating companies spent two days in Philadelphia, meeting several important regional actors such as accelerators and investors. The global law firm Morgan Lewis hosted the event and AHP international provided the companies with one-to-one coaching meetings. Mr. Åkerblom, the Honorary Swedish Consul to Philadelphia and Medtech consultant spent some time discussing possibilities in the region and Sectra Inc. CEO Mr. Andén shared invaluable experiences from gaining access to the US market.

The companies then spent two days in Washington DC at a very much appreciated event organized by SACC-DC and SACC-USA, taking place at House of Sweden. Maria Wallin Wållberg, CEO at Likvor, a medical device company developing a system for neurological investigations, felt that the SACC agenda well covered a variety of issues of importance to the group. The American trade association AdvaMed invited the group to discuss FDA challenges and opportunities at their headquarters close to the White House. The group also spent a successful evening networking at the Swedish ambassador’s residence.

The companies all felt that the trip exceeded their expectations and stressed the importance of traveling with other companies to share experiences, ideas and networks.

The CB Health Access program was initiated in 2016 between Estonian, Finnish, Latvian and Swedish technology organizations to support entrepreneurship in health technologies. The program facilitates the entry of Estonian, Latvian, Swedish and Finnish health tech companies to distant markets – South Korea, USA, India and Uganda. CB Health Access provides the companies with an introduction of the target market, individual coaching both from the home country and from target market experts, market information, business missions, and identifying and contacting potential partners, and business missions. The program is financed by Central Baltic Interreg Program.
